6. Engaged Community

Create an engaged community of writers.

A supportive classroom environment can foster students' motivation to write well, and through sharing their own writing and experiences with the writing process, teachers convey the message that writing is important and rewarding. Engaged students write with greater frequency and have deeper involvement in the writing process and community. Teachers can increase engagement and build a community atmosphere in which students feel valued by providing opportunities to choose their own writing topics, to interact with each other through collaborative writing activities or providing feedback, and to publish their final works.
