Help students to identify and use a text’s organizational structure to support comprehension.

Teaching text structures can help students identify the type of material they are reading, which will help them understand the content. For example, students who understand the specific elements of stories can better distinguish between minor and major characters and events, and those who have been taught clue words that signal various structures will have better understanding of informational texts.
